Are you in the Queue for the Loo?

Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol is offering a unique opportunity to support its charitable work and it involves a fan favourite – the infamous Talking Toilet.

Launched in Bristol in 1843 and brought back in 1970, Brunel’s steam ship has been painstakingly restored to recreate Victorian life at sea on the world’s first great luxury liner. On board you can step back in time and explore life as passengers and crew would have experienced it.

One of the most important, yet smallest, rooms on the ship is the Talking Toilet. Whether you visited on a school trip as a child or have taken your own children on board Brunel’s SS Great Britain, it’s something everybody remembers. Found below deck, visitors to the ship discover that the toilet door is shut, and can hear only the voice of the ‘passenger’ inside. It’s not uncommon for visitors to wait patiently for their turn to hear the voice, wondering what it will say this time!

Now, with a unique fundraising opportunity, Brunel’s SS Great Britain is giving you the opportunity to join the virtual queue for the loo, for 12 months, with your position in the queue noted on your certificate (maybe to hang in your own loo!) and on the SS Great Britain website.

Director of Development Louisa Pharoah said of the initiative, “we know our visitors love joining the queue for the loo and hearing what the occupant has to say to them – now we hope they’ll be flushed with excitement about joining our virtual queue, and in doing so, contributing to the vital conservation and education work that we do here at the SS Great Britain Trust.”

To join the Queue for the Loo visit the SS Great Britain website and make your donation online – you’ll soon receive your official Queue for the Loo certificate. You’ll also be able to see where you are in the queue!
